Biographical / Historical

Don graduated from Miami in 1970 with a B.S in Education. As a student, he was a member of Sigma Chi and the Men’s Baseball Team. He also played Basketball at Miami for one year. After Miami, Don earned a J.D. from the University of Cincinnati.

Don is a partner at Frost Brown Todd and is the former chair of its government services practice group. He is listed in The Best Lawyers in America and has been named to Ohio Super Lawyers. His work is focused on labor and employment and governmental law areas. He regularly represents numerous clients in a wide array of matters, with emphasis on Ohio township, municipal and school law, public and private sector labor and employment law, arbitrations, labor contract negotiations and administration and litigation. He has negotiated more than 400 labor agreements for public employers since 1984, including over 225 in the area of public safety. He has acted as a chief negotiator for major city police and fire negotiations, served as primary counsel in more than 40 unfair labor practice trials in NLRB proceedings and serves as solicitor for Indian Hill, law director for West Chester and general counsel for Middletown City Schools. Don’s additional recognitions include an Award of Excellence from the Ohio Public Employer Labor Relations Association, Who’s Who in Cincinnati Law (Cincinnati Business Courier), West Chester/Liberty Chamber of Commerce Community Support Honoree and an AV Rating from Martindale-Hubbell. Don has served on the Miami University Board of Trustees, including appointed roles of Vice Chair in 2009 and Chairman for 2011. His extensive service to Miami has also included serving as member and president of the Red and White Club Board, teaching classes in the Farmer School of Business and serving as a member of the Miami Middletown Citizens Advisory Council. He is also active with the Baseball Alumni Board and earned the Don Loss Volunteer of the Year Award in 1995 and 2009 for his service. In addition, Don attends numerous athletic events and holds season tickets for Football, Basketball and Hockey.

Don met his wife, Susan ’73, at Miami. Two of their children also attended Miami: Betsy ’99 and Cindy ’03.
