Biographical / Historical

In 1927, Arthur C. Wickenden became the founding chair of what was then called the Department of Religion at Miami University, which is one of the two oldest departments devoted to the study of religion at an American state-supported university, the other being at the University of Iowa. The department is now known as the Department of Comparative Religion, and an annual lecture series, the Arthur C. Wickenden Lectures, is held in his honor.

The Department of Comparative Religion closed in July 2025.
