Audio Visual Service. Miami University (Oxford, Ohio)
Biography
Started in 1949, the Miami University Audio Visual Service was one of the first educational aids of its kind in the nation. Its mission was to assist the teaching/learning process by providing instructional materials, equipment and services to the Miami academic community. In 1956, the Ford Foundation provided the funds for extensive expansion of the Audio Visual Service through an all-university research grant so the department could become an integral unit in the total university structure. It included a multimedia teaching lab, learning laboratory, photography, print and copy center, as well as providing instructional development, graphics, audio visual equipment, laboratory equipment and support for the University's closed circuit television series. In 1993, the Audio Visual Service was absorbed by Miami's Computing and Information Services (now Information Technology Services).
