  • Biographical / Historical

Basketball began to be played at Miami in the late 1890's, with intercollegiate play starting in 1905.  In 1947, Miami joined the Midwest Athletic Conference.  Miami's basketball team has won 21 MAC championships and participated in 16 NCAA tournaments.  Miami's best NCAA tournament performance was in 1999 when the team reached the "Sweet Sixteen."  Three Miami basketball players have gone on to enjoy notable careers: Wayne Embry, Wally Szcerbiak, and Ron Harper, who played on 5 NBA championship teams.
